Abstract

Metabolites produced by gut microbiota are emerging biomarkers of glycemic control. In a longitudinal cohort of 600 adults with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, baseline levels of short-chain fatty acids and secondary bile acids predicted sustained HbA1c reduction with metformin therapy. Integrating metabolite profiles with clinical variables improved predictive accuracy for glycemic durability. Findings highlight the potential of microbiome-informed treatment stratification and precision nutrition approaches in type 2 diabetes care.
