Abstract

Air pollution is increasingly recognized as a metabolic stressor. In a cross-sectional study of 500 children aged 6–12 across three cities, higher exposure to PM2.5 was associated with elevated HOMA-IR scores even after adjusting for BMI and physical activity. The strength of association was greater in children with low antioxidant intake. These findings suggest that reducing air pollutant exposure may contribute to primary prevention of insulin resistance in pediatric populations.
