Early Physical Activity Improves Glycemic Outcomes in Newly Diagnosed Youth with Type 1 Diabetes: The 4T Exercise Initiative

Abstract

Early after a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (T1D), youth and families face multiple behavioral adjustments. Structured exercise as an adjunct to technology-enabled care within a “4T” paradigm enhances time-in-range, reduces glycemic variability, and improves cardiorespiratory fitness without increasing severe hypoglycemia. Implementing an exercise-first culture during the “honeymoon” period may consolidate self-management and long-term engagement.
