Imaging-Derived Sarcopenia as a Prognostic Marker for Mortality and Limb Outcomes in Amputation Patients

Abstract

Patients undergoing lower-limb amputation exhibit high risk of mortality and repeat intervention. Imaging-detected sarcopenia has emerged as a robust prognostic marker of poor survival and impaired rehabilitation. Standardized assessment of muscle mass should be integrated into surgical planning and follow-up. Nutritional and exercise-based interventions may help improve survival and amputation-free outcomes.
